Wesley Open Chess Tournament 2024

Benjamin Franklin once said, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” Embracing this philosophy, a group of dedicated chess enthusiasts from Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (Private) worked tirelessly to organise the Wesley Open Chess Tournament 2024. The Chess Club which is the brainchild of the school’s Head Prefect, Brandon Ong Qi Jun who, along with his good friends finally established the club. This very club also succeeded in attracting fellow chess lovers from across Klang Valley and as far away as Singapore.

The tournament, held on Saturday, 18 May 2024, from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, was a resounding success, drawing 141 young participants from both primary and secondary schools, along with their supportive parents. The event featured two main categories: U12 and U18. The student organisers managed every detail from start to finish, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all.

The core team, comprising Brandon Ong Qi Jun, Low Xuan Hong, and Wong Eu Bing displayed exceptional dedication and organisational skills. They were ably assisted by Lee Xiu Xun, Mark Damien Vun, Lee Ze Xue, and Yew Jin Heng.
